This enzyme, a novel snake venom metalloprotease, belonging to the metzincin family, is a monomeric glycoprotein with multifunctional domains. It is capable of inducing apoptosis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and suppressing the cell proliferation. This enzyme specifically hydrolyzes not only extracellular matrix proteins but also their cell surface integrin receptors.

Cattle, but not rabbit, factor V is cleaved, and no other proteins of the clotting system are attacked.
